Emily Irene VanCamp was originally keen on becoming a professional dancer, but following a trip to her sister Katie's set for the show Ladies Room, she became more interested in acting. As she took acting classes, she also landed the roles of guest stars on TV programs. Some of the shows that she had appeared in, besides other ones included Are You afraid of the Dark? Radio Active and Dice. VanCamp achieved a major career break when he got chosen to play Sam Dolan in WB's horror mystery series Glory Days. Although the show received positive reviews, its low rating led to it being cancelled after just nine episodes. Actually, she was quick in securing another role as Amy Abbott on Everwood. Her performance resulted in her being nominated as the Young Artist Award nominee and for four Teen Choice Awards.
